Personal Identifier ( PID ) is part of a personal identity data (PII) element, which identifies a unique individual and may allow others to "assume" the individual's identity without knowledge or their approval.
This can happen when a PID data element is used in one of the following ways:
- Own
- Combine with someone's name
- Combined with other PID data elements
- Combined with other PII
