CÃÆ' Â © sar Felipe MillÃÆ'¡n Favela ( ; Spanish: Ã, is a Mexican-American dog behavioralist with over 25 years of dog experience. He is widely known for his nominated Emmy television series Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan, which was produced from 2004 to 2012 and aired in over 80 countries around the world.

Millan is a New York Times best-selling author and has his own dog product line and instructional DVD. Prior to the Dog Whisperer series, Millan focused on rehabilitating a very aggressive dog and setting up a rehabilitation complex, Dog Psychology Center, in South Los Angeles (2002-2008).

In 2009, the Center for Dog Psychology moved to Santa Clarita, California. Millan also opened an East Coast clinic at Country Inn Pet Resort in Davie, Florida, near Fort Lauderdale.

The first three books of Millan, including Cesar's Way , all became the best selling New York Times , selling cumulatively over two million copies in the United States, and available in 14 other countries.

In 2009, along with IMG, Millan introduced a monthly magazine entitled Cesar's Way , with The Wall Street Journal reporting at that time that half of American consumers recognize Millan. The magazine stopped publishing after the November/December 2014 edition.

By IlusiÃÆ'³n Millan, his ex-wife, he founded the Millan Foundation - later renamed the Cesar Millan Foundation and is today called the Cesar Millan PACK Project. The Foundation was established to provide financial support to animal shelters and organizations involved in saving, rehabilitating and recreating abused and abandoned animals, and to fund sterile/sterile programs to help reduce the dog's overpopulation. It aims to "improve the health, happiness, and harmony of dogs and humans - while helping both species learn from and support each other." Among other projects, the Foundation is working with Yale University to create a children's curriculum based on his work.

Millan's method has been criticized by RSPCA's animal welfare charities and by Alan Titchmarsh's broadcaster as "cruel" and "unnecessary".

Dog training techniques

Millan's work focuses on handling dogs with what he calls "calm energy". He believes that dog owners should set their roles as leader packs calmly. According to Millan, dogs have three main needs: sport, discipline and affection - in that order. In other words, it is the owner's responsibility to meet the needs of the dog's energy level through challenging exercises; then to provide clearly defined rules, limits and limits; and finally, to give love. According to Millan, a common trap for American dog owners is to give lots of affection with a little practice and even less discipline. She encourages owners to understand the effects of their own attitudes, internal emotions and physical postures on dog behavior, counseling owners to hold strong posture (ie, high shoulders and chest forward) and projecting calm energy.

The Millan TV program centers on dog rehabilitation while Millan predicts dog owners in their dog handling philosophy. Conversation with the owner usually revolves around his philosophy - that a healthy and balanced dog needs a strong "leadership pack" from the owner, especially in the form of exercise, discipline and affection (in that order), while Millan shows how owners can achieve and maintain leadership roles with their dogs. In some cases, Millan brings dogs with severe behavioral problems to his Dog Psychology Center for a more intensive rehabilitation period. The program is not intended to be a dog training guide, and each episode contains repeated warnings that viewers should not try behavior modification techniques at home without a professional's guidance.

While working with dogs, Millan often uses vocal marks such as tsch , body movements, and body language to communicate with dogs rather than talking or dog names. Millan encourages owners to create their own unique voice that works for them. He believes that dogs perceive, understand, and respond to one's energy more easily than their speech.

Millan said, "My goal in rehabilitating dogs and training people is to create a balanced relationship between humans and canine teeth." In 2009, The New York Times linked Millan's success to his personal balance, describing this as "a kind of mien ÃÆ'¼ber-balanced".

Criticism

According to a January 2007 article in the Indian scientific journal Current Sciences , some professional dog trainers find Millan methods outdated, defective and "unscientific and inhuman". Critics of Millan say that what Millan calls "quiet submission" is actually a helplessness that is the result of unwelcome dog training techniques. A study in Applied Behavioral Sciences says Millan has been influential in popularizing punishment techniques, but the dog's bad behavior is caused by fear and anxiety, not the lack of alpha status of the owner. Malcolm Gladwell, writing for The New Yorker, said that critics responded to the "highly edited" version of his approach on television, which exaggerates the frequency and intensity he uses when he disciplines dogs.

In October 2012, Millan appeared on The Alan Titchmarsh Show . Titchmarsh called his method "cruel" and "unnecessary", citing a video in which, said Titchmarsh, Millan hit a dog in the throat. Millan calls it a touch, not a punch. Titchmarsh read out the RSPCA statement saying that "The adverse training techniques that have been seen to be used by Cesar Millan can cause pain and fear for dogs and can exacerbate their behavioral problems." Metro UK described the interview as the first time that Titchmarsh had "deviated from the usual interview strategy - which ran the whole from mild to wild sycophancy" and described it as "perhaps the only celeb celeb has failed to win..."

The death of the father came at the age of 16 years in February 2010.
