The International Security Information Systems Consortium Consortium , or (ISC) Ã,² , is a nonprofit organization specializing in training and certification for cybersecurity professionals. It has been described as "the world's largest IT security organization". The most famous certification offered by (ISC) ² is Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification.

History
In the mid-1980s the need arose for standard and vendor neutral certification programs that provided structure and demonstrated competence in the field of IT security, and some professional societies recognized that certification programs that proved qualified information security personnel were urgently needed.
In June 1988, a conference was hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Federal Information Systems Security Educators Association (FISSEA) at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho to meet the needs of a standard curriculum for emerging professions. The organizations present include:
o Canadian Information Processing Society (CIPS) o Computer Security Institution (CSI) o Data Processing Management Association Special Interest Group for Certified Professionals (DPMA SIG-CP) o Data Processing Management Special Interest Group Associations for Computer Security (DPMA SIG-CS) o Idaho State University (ISU) o Information Systems Security Association (ISSA) and International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP)
During the conference, the question arises as to why almost every group is represented, except for NIST and ISU, creating professional certification. The conference participants agreed to form a consortium that will seek to bring together competing agendas from various organizations. In November 1988, the Special Interest for Computer Security Group (SIG-CS), a member of the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA), brought together several organizations interested in this. The (ISC) ² was formed in mid 1989 as a non-profit organization with this goal in mind [8].
In 1990, the first working committee founded something called the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) was formed. The work undertaken by the committee produced the first version of CBK completed in 1992, with CISSP credentials launched in 1994, followed by SSCP credentials in 2001, CAP credentials in 2005, and CSSLP credentials in 2008, CCFP and HCISPP in 2013 and CCSP 2015. In 2001, (ISC) ² set up regional offices of Europe, Middle East and Africa in London. In 2002, (ISC) ² opened the Asia-Pacific regional office in Hong Kong. In 2015, (ISC) ² introduces North American regional offices in Washington, D.C.
Since 2011, (ISC) ² is hosting an annual Security Congress (ISC) ².

(ISC) ² defend the so-called Common Body of Knowledge for information security for the following certifications:

It is certified by ANSI who (ISC) ² meets the requirements of ANSI/ISO/IEC Standard 17024, a certification accreditation program of personnel. The accreditation includes certification of CISSP, SSCP, ISSEP, ISSAP, ISSMP, CAP, and CSSLP.
Continuing Professional Education
All (ISC) Ã,² certified professionals are required to obtain Sustainable Professional Education (CPE) credits on an annual basis to maintain their certification. CPE credits can be obtained by attending industry events or conferences, writing articles/books reviews/books, etc.
Code of Conduct
All certified professionals (ISC) Ã,² are required to support the Code of Conduct (ISC) ². Violations of each code are investigated by peer review panels, with potential for revoking certification. (ISC) Ã, ² (along with other security certification organizations) has been criticized for lack of education in ethics.
