The Pevely Dairy Company Plant is a former factory complex of Pevely Dairy Company in St. Petersburg. Louis, Missouri, located at 1001 South Grand Boulevard and 3626 Chouteau Avenue. The eight acre property includes three contribution buildings and one contribution object. In operation, the plant is operated as a milk production facility, a horse stall for delivery of milk wagons, corporate headquarters, and soda fountains. The company itself is owned and operated by the Kerckhoff family since its inception in the 1880s until 1989, when it was purchased by Prairie Farms Dairy. It is one of the oldest dairies still in St. Louis.
The oldest building on the site dates to 1915 and is located on the southwest corner of Grand Blvd. and Chouteau. Located at 1001 South Grand Blvd., it becomes an office for a four-story company. The red brick office building has a three-bay facade on the first story, and inside it retains the white brick walls and floors. Upper roof line includes cornice decoration. In 1916, Pevely added a brick and concrete building building on site, located at 3626 Chouteau Avenue. The plant expands in 1943, 1945, 1975, 1985, and 1997; In addition, a garage was built south of the factory at 1101 Motard Avenue in 1928, and a chimney on a site that in 1943 included glazed brick letters detailing Pevely .
In October 2008, Prairie Farms closed the plant, which is the last remaining Pevely facility. The current property is empty. In March 2009, a fire destroyed an ice cream factory building on the site. That same year, the complex was nominated and accepted on the National Register of Historic Places.
In August 2011, Saint Louis University purchased the site from Prairie Farms. Despite listing on the National Register of Historic Places, the University of Saint Louis requested permission to destroy the entire complex in December 2011. The Preservation Council of St. Louis Louis initially rejected the university's permission to destroy all the buildings on the site, but in February 2012, the Town Planning Commission canceled the rejection. Immediately prior to the ballot, University president Lawrence Biondi threatened to close the Saint Louis University School of Medicine in the city and move his operations to St. Louis. Louis County if the rejection is not canceled. In a complex venue, the university intends to build a $ 75 million outpatient care center.
The demolition of the factory begins in early April 2012. As of May 2015, no new construction is visible on this site.
