Early life and education

MacFarlane was born and raised in Kent, Connecticut. His parents, Ronald Milton MacFarlane (born 1946) and Ann Perry (nÃÆ' Â © e Sager; 1947-2010), were born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Her sister is the voice actress Rachael Ann MacFarlane (born 1976). He had roots in New England back to the 1600s, and was descended from the passenger's Mayflower William Brewster. MacFarlane's parents met in 1970, when they both lived and worked in Boston, Massachusetts, and married later that year. The couple moved to Kent in 1972, where Ann began working at the Admissions Office at South Kent School. He then worked at the College's Guidance and Reception Office at the Kent School, a selective academic preparatory school, where Ronald was a teacher.

During his childhood, MacFarlane developed interest in illustrations and began drawing cartoons of Fred Flintstone and Woody Woodpecker, as early as two years. At the age of five, MacFarlane knew that he wanted to pursue a career in animation, and began by making flip books, after his parents found a book about the subject for him. Four years later, at the age of nine, MacFarlane began publishing a weekly comic strip titled "Walter Crouton" for Kent Good Times Dispatch, a local newspaper in Kent, Connecticut, who paid him five dollars a week. In one anecdote of that time, MacFarlane said in an interview in October 2011 that as a child he was always "fascinated by the Communion ceremony". She creates a strip with kneeling characters on the altar taking Communion and asks "Can I have fries with it?" The paper was printed and he got an "angry letter" from a local pastor; it caused a "small kind of mini-controversy" in the city.

MacFarlane received his high school diploma in 1991 from Kent School. While there, he continues to experiment with animations, and his parents gave him an 8 mm camera. MacFarlane went on to study films, videos, and animations at the Rhode Island Design School (RISD), where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts. As a student, he initially intended to work for Disney, but changed his mind after graduating. At RISD MacFarlane made a series of independent films, which eventually met future cast members of Family Guy Mike Henry, whose brother Patrick was a MacFarlane classmate. During his time at RISD, MacFarlane did a stand-up comedy. In his senior year at RISD MacFarlane created a thesis film titled The Life of Larry , which will ultimately be an inspiration for Family Guy . Professor MacFarlane submitted his film to the Hanna-Barbera animation studio, where he was later employed.

Careers

Television career

Hanna-Barbera

MacFarlane was recruited during a senior film festival by development executives Ellen Cockrill and President Fred Seibert. He went to work at Hanna-Barbera (later Hanna-Barbera Cartoons) based on the content of The Life of Larry writing, rather than the ability of cartoons. He is one of only a few people hired by a company based solely on writing talent. She works as an animator and writer for the Cartoon Cartoon series Cartoon Cartoons . He describes the atmosphere at Hanna-Barbera as resembling an "ancient Hollywood structure, where you move from one gig to another or you jump from writing jobs in one show to storyboard work elsewhere." MacFarlane worked in four television series during his tenure in the studio: Dexter Laboratories, Cow and Chicken I Am Weasel , and Johnny Bravo . Working as a storyboard writer and artist, MacFarlane spends a lot of time in Johnny Bravo . He found it easier to develop his own style in Johnny Bravo through the scriptwriting process, the Dexter Laboratory , Cattle and Chicken , and I Am Weasel is not used. As part of Johnny Bravo's crew, MacFarlane meets actor and voiceover artists like Adam West and Jack Sheldon from Schoolhouse Rock! fame. Meeting these people then becomes important for the production and success of the series of Family Guy .

He also does freelance work for Walt Disney Television Animation, writes for Jungle Cubs, and for Nelvana, where he writes for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective . Through rigorous observations of writing elements such as story development, character betting, and plot points, MacFarlane found work for Disney is, from a writing angle, invaluable in preparation for his career (especially at Ace Ventura). MacFarlane also creates and writes short titled Zoomate for Frederator Studios' Oh Yeah! Cartoons in Nickelodeon. In 1996, MacFarlane made a sequel to The Life of Larry titled Larry & amp; Steve , featuring a middle-aged character named Larry and an intellectual dog, Steve. Shortcast is broadcast as one of Cartoon Network World Premiere Toons . Executives at Fox see shorts and negotiations Larry immediately started the prime-time animation series.

Family Guy

Although MacFarlane enjoys working at Hanna-Barbera, he feels the real call is for prime-time animation, which will allow a wider style of humor. He first threw Family Guy into Fox during his tenure at Hanna-Barbera. A development executive for Hanna-Barbera, who tried to return to the main business at the time, introduced MacFarlane to Leslie Kolins and Mike Darnell, head of the alternative comedy department at Fox. After the success of King of the Hill in 1997, MacFarlane called Kolins once more to ask about the second possible pitch for the series. The company offered the young writer a strange deal: Fox gave him a $ 50,000 budget to produce a pilot that could lead to the series (most prime-time animation episodes cost at least US $ 1 million). Given his experience in an interview with The New York Times, MacFarlane stated, "I spent about six months without sleep and no life, just drawing like a madman in my kitchen and doing this pilot".

After six months, MacFarlane returned to Fox with a "very, very simple, rough animated film - enough to get the tune of the show across" to present to executives, who loved the pilot and ordered the series immediately. In July 1998, Fox Broadcasting Company announced the purchase of Family Guy for its January 1999 debut. Family Guy was originally intended to be a series of shorts on MADTV , just as The Simpsons has started on The Tracey Ullman Show a decade earlier. Negotiations for the MADtv connection at the event have ended since the beginning as a result of budget concerns. At the age of 24, MacFarlane was the youngest television executive producer.

Family Guy first aired January 31, 1999. MacFarlane's work in animating Family Guy has been influenced by Jackie Gleason and Hanna-Barbera along with examples from The Simpsons > i> and All in the Family . In addition to writing three episodes, "Death Has a Shadow", "Family Guy Viewer Mail 1" and "North by North Quahog", MacFarlane's voice Family Guy ' - Peter Griffin, Stewie Griffin, Brian Griffin, and Glenn Quagmire and Tom Tucker, his son Jake Tucker, and additional characters. Backed by high DVD sales and established fan loyalty, Family Guy evolved into a $ 1 billion franchise. On May 4, 2008, after about two and a half years of negotiations, MacFarlane reached a $ 100 million deal with Fox to keep Family Guy and American Dad! until 2012 The treaty made him the highest paid television writer in the world.

MacFarlane's success with Family Guy has opened the door for other business-related shows. On April 26, 2005, he and composer Walter Murphy created Family Guy: Live in Vegas . This soundtrack features a Broadway tune theme, and MacFarlane voiced Stewie on the track "Stewie's Sexy Party". A Broadway music fan, MacFarlane commented on using music as a component for Family Guy :

I love the lush orchestration and ancient melody writing... it makes you excited, kind of like that, "he said. This is very optimistic. And that's fun. One thing that's missing me from popular music right now is fun. Guys like [Bing] Crosby, or [Frank] Sinatra, or Dean Martin, or Mel TormÃÆ' Â © [...] they are people who sound like they are having fun.

In addition, the video game Family Guy was released in 2006. Two years later, in August 2007, he closed the contract for the production of digital content with AdSense. MacFarlane takes players on the road to voice the character in front of the live audience. Family Guy Live gives fans a chance to hear the next script. In mid-2007, Chicago fans had the opportunity to listen to the premiere of "Blue Harvest" the next six seasons. The show has been played in Montreal, New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles.

On July 22, 2007, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter , MacFarlane announced that he might start working on a movie, even though "nothing is official". In September 2007, Ricky Blitt gave TV.com an interview confirming that he had started working on his script. Then on TV Week on July 18, 2008, MacFarlane confirmed plans to produce feature film Family Guy released theatrically â € Å"in the next yearâ €. He came up with the idea for the story, "something you can not do on the show, which [to him] is the only reason to do the movie". He then went on to say he imagined the film to be "old-style musical with dialogue" similar to The Sound of Music, saying that he would "really try to capture, music, feel." On October 13, 2011, MacFarlane confirmed that a deal for the film Family Guy has been made, and it will be written by himself and the producer alongside Ricky Blitt. On November 30, 2012, MacFarlane confirmed plans to produce the movie Family Guy .

Despite its popularity, Family Guy is often criticized. The Parents Television Council has often criticized the event for its content, after organizing a letter-writing campaign aimed at removing it from Fox's list, and has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission that some episodes of the show contained indecent content. MacFarlane responded to PTC's critics by saying, among other things, "It's like getting Hitler's hatred letters, they're really horrible human beings."

Family Guy has been canceled twice, despite strong fan support and DVD sales has caused Fox to reconsider. MacFarlane mentions how this cancellation affects the line of writers every time Fox approves the show. "One positive aspect of Family Guy is constantly drawn from [air] is that we always have to repeat the author".

During the sixth season, episodes of Family Guy and American Dad! was suspended from regular broadcasts due to the 2007-2008 Writers Guild strike (which MacFarlane participated in to support writers while Fox aired three episodes of Family Guy without MacFarlane permission). On February 12, 2008, the strike ended, and the series resumed airing regularly, starting with "Back to the Forest".

American father!

MacFarlane has a second successful long-running adult animation series on American Dad! which has been in production since early 2005. Until now, American Dad! is MacFarlane's only animated series never having an official cancellation, though it relocated the network from Fox to TBS on October 20, 2014, after 11 seasons of the show. TBS announced on July 16, 2013, that they have taken the series for the 12-episode 12th season. Reportedly, the goal of network relocation initially was to make room for new animated broadcasts in the Fox "Domination Animation" ranks that are now not working. It was reported that the relocation of American Dad! allows space for other events, such as Mulaney and another animated series from Seth MacFarlane called Bordertown . Bordertown ran during the 2015-16 television season.

While MacFarlane regularly does an extensive voice acting job for American Dad! , he has left many creative direction events up to Weitzman and Barker. MacFarlane has praised this step by helping to give different series of sounds and identities. Although, as announced on November 4, 2013, Barker left American Dad! after 10 seasons as a show producer/co-showrunner, resulting from creative differences as production for season 11 on TBS begins. American Dad! was first shown after Super Bowl XXXIX, debuting with the episode "Pilot", written by MacFarlane. The inaugural series premiere of February 6, 2005 was somewhat early from the preview because the program will not start serving regularly as part of the Fox Animation Domination until May 1st, 2005.

Due to the atypical scheduling of the first 7 episodes of the show, American Dad! has a controversial season number difference in which much is divided over how many seasons the program already has. Beyond the divide between media journalists and fans, there are conflicting reports about what season this event is even between American Dad makers! and the official website of the event - both from Fox's original website and now from the TBS Website. At Comic-Con 2013 on July 20th, American Dad! co-creator Mike Barker hinted that the movie American Dad! - centered on Roger's character and set from the birth of the planet - in the works and partially written. However, with Barker's departure from the series, it is not clear whether these plans have been removed or modified in any way.

MacFarlane has described the early season of American Dad! because it is similar to All in the Family , likens the original Stan Smith title character who is fanatical to Archie Bunker. MacFarlane also stated that his inspiration to create American Dad! comes from his anxiety and Weitzman with George W. Bush's policy as former President of the United States. However, after a few early seasons, the series stopped using political satire elements and began presenting its own brand of entertainment and humor. MacFarlane has been described as having difficulty understanding this series at the beginning of its emergence; However, he was very warm for the series after the season after he felt the show was really coming alone. Fellow makers have felt this through the increasing attention on the MacFarlane series after the early season. MacFarlane has also revealed he is an American Dad fan! own. He has recorded a positive reaction to the character "Roger" by fans through his Twitter.

The event focuses on the Smith family: Stan Smith, endanger, dog-eating-dog, rash and unconscionable household head. He has a very big chin and a masculine way about him. As a breadwinner of the family, he worked as a CIA officer and was originally portrayed in the series as an ancient conservative fanatic but has since grown from these traits (the show is known for its storyline elements and other distinguishing plot techniques); Stan is partially moralistic but at the same time inappropriate, corrupt wife, Francine; and their two children, the daughter of Hayley's new-age hippie and Steve nerds. Accompanying the Smith family are three additional major characters, two of which are from non-human species: zany, surprising, carefree, cruel, and mischievous. Roger, who is full of disguises/alter ego and has little if any limits on his behavior. He was rescued by Stan from Area 51; Klaus, a human-in-a-fish-body pet. The unpleasant situation of Klaus emerged from the brain of an East German Olympic skier shrinking and transplanted into the fish's body; and Jeff Fischer, Hayley's boyfriend turned into a "whipped" husband, known for being crazy about Hayley's mother, Francine. Together, Smith and their three housemates run what is only at the first glance of a typical American middle class lifestyle, but nothing.

Seth MacFarlane provides the voices of Stan and Roger, based on Roger's voice to Paul Lynde (who plays Uncle Arthur on Bewitched ). Her sister, Rachael MacFarlane, cast Hayley's voice.

The Cleveland show

MacFarlane developed a spinoff called Family Guy called The Cleveland Show , which focuses on the character of Cleveland Brown and his family. The idea for the event came from suggestions by Cleveland's writer and voice of Mike Henry. Fox ordered 22 episodes and the first series aired on September 27, 2009. The show, which aired the first season consisting of 22 episodes, was taken by Fox for the second season, consisting of 13 episodes, bringing the total to 35 episodes. The announcement was made on May 3, 2009 before the first season even aired. Due to strong ratings, Fox took back nine episodes of season 2, made a 22-episode episode and made the total number of episodes of events to 44. The series ends on May 19, 2013, for a total of 4 seasons and 88 episodes, and the Cleveland character returns to > Family Guy on episode He Bla-ack! . This is the only animated series created by MacFarlane that does not make it voiced the main character.

"Goodman's team from The Hollywood Reporter praised MacFarlane's performance saying he was" impressively better than he would be at stake. " He also notes that he added "a lot of goodness with a little bit of Ricky Gervais biting-your-hands-who-eats-you things and works well alignment." By denying the dismissal, the court ruled that the reference in the scene made the light of Jesus and his followers - not Metrano or his actions.
