The Society for News Design (SND) is an international organization for professionals working in the news sector of the media industry, especially those involved with graphic design, illustrations, web design and infographics.
Founded in 1979, it is a registered nonprofit organization in the United States with about 1,000 members worldwide. Among other activities, he organizes the Best Design Competition annual competition open to newspapers from around the world at Syracuse University every February, the latest Best of Digital Design international competition at Ball State University, and annual conferences (revolving through cities) visual journalists from around the world.
SND also has a number of branch organizations, including student chapters (the largest including those at Ohio University, Michigan State University, University of Missouri and Syracuse University) and international chapters.

Leadership
Officers serve a one year term and are elected by the SND membership election. While positions are decided by elections, historically most positions have been held by previous positions in hierarchical styles, in this way officers have generally climbed the ladder of leadership through other areas of the board of directors.

Publications
The organization publishes a number of publications throughout the year:
- An annual colorful book featuring the winners of the Best of Newspaper Design competition
- Design magazine, a biennial full-color magazine for changing its typography with every issue and focusing on the latest news design trends
- Web-based SND updates, "newsletters that tend to focus more on industry news and organization related events.

Events
SND holds a number of regional and international events, with the aim of educating and allowing opportunities for members to network. The Society for News Design annual fall workshop revolves around cities around the world. Although generally in the United States, the workshop has visited locations in Canada, Puerto Rico, Denmark and Spain and Argentina (2009). This weekend's event featured a number of guest speakers on various topics along with criticism, auction, and award dinner.
SND Orlando 2006 organized the competition "The Intern". Ten students are selected from a bunch of applicants to compete for internships at The San Jose Mercury News, The Orlando Sentinel, and The Arizona Republic. Students compete for a week and attend a conference, where the winners are announced.
Throughout the year, SND members take on a number of one-to-two-day, one-day quick courses held around the world and are designed to focus on specific visual journalism topics.
On 23, 24 and 25 October 2015 SND hosted the second edition of Creative News Design at Dubai Knowledge Village in Dubai (UAE).
On November 3, 2017 The Society for News Design hosted the first London SND conference: "The Future of the Media is Visual" in the NEWS UK building.
