Histori

In July 1985, Trammell Crow Co. and Norfolk Southern Corp. announced plans to block between College and Brevard Streets and between 2nd and 3rd Streets. The First Union Center, dubbed the main occupant, will include granite and 34,000 square feet of skyscrapers called the Two First Union Center, which will be the first Art Deco and postmodernist office tower in the city. The project will also include hotels, two office buildings and a park. Unlike nearby buildings with flat roofs, JPJ Architect designs use a roof where "[t] he is round, thick arch rises above the regenerative part that enliven the main facade... this one looks like an old radio". The first office tower was to begin construction in December 1985 and was completed in 1987.

By mid-1986, the Two First Union Centers had been converted into a 42-story building, becoming Charlotte's highest, and in December, when NCNB and Charter Properties announced even higher buildings, the new First Union headquarters were called One First Union Center. US $ 100 million One First Union Center became the city's tallest building on August 21, 1987, with concrete pouring for the 41st floor. When First Union employees started moving into a new building in February 1988, the name Two First Union Center referred to the previous bank headquarters on Tryon Street.

On May 13, 1988, a foundation in place for the hotel planned, is expected to be 19 stories and 250 rooms, but Trammell Crow has not submitted plans to the county's standard building department. Omni Hotels is said to be interested in this site. On October 18, 1990, Omni Charlotte 22 floors and 410 rooms held ribbon cuts, although only eight floors of prepared rooms and fourteen stories were completed. Omni President Bill Sheehan called it "probably our best facility". In 1996, The Yarmouth Group bought Omni for $ 33 million and turned it into a Westin. In 1998, Hilton Hotel bought this hotel about twice as much. The hotel is now Hilton Charlotte Center City.

After the purchase of Wachovia by First Union in 2001, and the adoption of the name Wachovia in 2002, the name One First Union turned into One Wachovia Center.

In 2007, Wachovia announced it would move its headquarters to the new Wachovia Corporate Center, scheduled for completion in 2010. After Wells Fargo announced the purchase of Wachovia in 2008, Duke Energy announced plans to take up more space in the new building. In February 2009, Duke announced it would occupy the Duke Energy Center, formerly the Wachovia Corporate Center, as its corporate headquarters.

In December 2010, the building was renamed as One Wells Fargo Center. This is the home of Wells Fargo East Coast Division. On June 14, 2012, Azrieli Group Ltd. of Israel announced it would buy the building for $ 245 million.

Although Wells Fargo is the largest tenant, with 686,834 square feet, or 70 percent of the space, and the namesake of the building, it is occupied by several major North Carolina companies and national law firms. Wells Fargo Center also includes Two Wells Fargo Center, Three Wells Fargo Center, Hilton hotel, and 58 condominium units complex.

Starwood Capital Group of Greenwich, Connecticut and Vision Properties of Mountain Lakes, New Jersey announced plans to purchase the building in February 2013. The $ 245 million deal closes in April.
