Training

In this academy, IAF pilots are trained to learn to fly through successive stages. Those who pass as combat pilots serve in front-line combat squadrons equipped with SU-30, MiG-29, MiG-27, MiG-23, MiG-21 Mirage-2000, Tejas and Jaguar aircraft. For those interested in aircraft carriers, the IAF offers heavy-duty IL-76 aircraft, the C-17 and the multi-functional AN-32 multi-function aircraft, in addition to the HS-748 and Dornier lightweight transport planes.

By joining the helicopter fleet, the participants learned to fly at the height of the tree tops and land in remote areas. The curriculum also includes combat helicopters such as India developed Dhruv, MI-26 lifting heavy helicopters, evacuation of victims, troop retreats and air supply appointments.

The Academy provides special training to young men and women who assume responsibility as leaders in other areas of air force operations. These are the administration, air control, meteorology, logistics, accounts and branches of education. Swimming, indoor and indoor games are included in the evening routine.

Indian Navy and Army as well as Coast Guard. Officers from friendly foreign countries are also sometimes trained at the Air Force Academy.

Here are the types of training performed at the academy:

  • Fly training

If a cadet joins a Flying Branch, the training is divided into Stages I, II and III. Each stage brings the trainee pilot from the ground level to a more complex flight level. It was during Phase III that the cadets were sent to specialize in fighter planes, helicopters or transport planes.

  • Air Traffic Control Training

Training at the Air Force Academy for Air Traffic Control is designed under the procedures of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), amended to meet the requirements of military aviation.

  • Landline Training

Ground Duty Officers Training is for all non-technical branches of the Indian Air Force. If the cadets join the Administration, Logistics, Account, Education or Meteorology division, they will be trained at the Air Force Academy before joining the Air Force as Landline Officers.

  • Shared Services Training

Cadets of Fly Branch, Technical, and Ground Duty are awarded Training of Service Shared here for 22 weeks. After that, the cadets chosen to enter the Aeronautical Engineering Branch were sent to the Air Force Academy of Engineering in Jalahalli, Bangalore.
