Do Negative-Calorie Foods Exist? - YouTube

Food negative calories are foods that require more food energy to digest than food provided. Thermal effects or specific dynamic actions - "the cost" of calories to digest food - will be greater than the energy content of the food. Despite its repeated popularity in dietary guidelines, there is no scientific evidence to support the idea that any food is calorically negative. While some drinks are calorically negative, the effects are minimal and drinking large amounts of water can be dangerous.

Food

Foods claimed to be negative in calories are mostly low-calorie fruit and vegetables such as celery, oranges, lemons, limes, apples, lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage. There is no scientific evidence to suggest that any of these foods have negative negative effects. Celery has a thermal effect of about 8%, far less than 100% or more required for food to have "negative calories". Celery stalk gives 6 calories to the body, but the body removes only half the calories that digest it. Even proteins, which require the most energy to digest, have heat energy of only 20% -30%.

Diets based on negative calorie foods do not work as advertised but can cause weight loss because they satisfy hunger by filling the stomach with foods that are not solid calories. A 2005 study based on a low fat vegetable diet found that the average participant lost 13 pounds (5.9 kg) for fourteen weeks, and attributed weight loss to a reduction in the energy density of foods produced from low fat content and high fiber content , and the thermic effect increases. A study of chewing gums reported mastication burned about 11 kcal (46 kJ) per hour.
