The global male fashion magazine GQ in the United Kingdom tries to define smart casual for job interviews. Wearing chino, blazer and white shirt to give the impression is suggested. Bringing a tie is recommended; the authors commented, "it's a lot more embarrassing to dress under than above".

Fashion magazine Pakistan Fashion Central defines the look of the smart casual woman from a work perspective. Understanding workplace environments and cultures is emphasized, and checking for corporate clothing codes is strongly recommended. Fashion Central outlines smart casual with smudgy and wrinkle-free clothes with non-violent and non-vibrant colors that reflect the age of women.
