Casually smart is an ambiguously dressed code that is generally a neat yet casual dress. Different locality, type of event, context, or culture can have various interpretations of the dress code and therefore the designation of certain clothing pieces as smart casual is denied.

The Australian national dictionary, Macquarie Dictionary, defines "smart casual" as "well-dressed in casual style." Oxford defines it as "neat, conventional, yet relatively informal in style, especially those adapted to certain dress codes". Kamus.com's 21st Century Lexicon defines it as "clothing, somewhat informal but neat".
Clothing
A personal assessment is needed to define an obscure term smart casual based on the context, theme, person, location, weather and spirit. Italian fashion house Brioni explains smart casual not a matter of inventory or classification but rather knowledge and good taste for understanding the environment; demonstrates that smart casual during the summer months in Sardinia is different from smart casual during winter in Toronto. A freelance Australian freelance designer states, "Smart Casual is the most open dress code for interpretation and the least understood," and suggests wearing a fresher, lighter, softer, patterned, casual, wise, less structured, clean and unconclusive, with fabrics like linen, cashmere, fine wool and freshly laundered cotton.
The global men's fashion magazine, Topman, emphasizes flexibility smart casual . Individual personalities and the pleasures of choosing clothing determine the dress code provided that clothing is a multi-purpose outfit received for official occasions, dating or ordinary social gatherings. Topman describes casual and formal clothing pieces mixed and matched, and describes smart casual clothing can include a mixture of jeans, blazers, sweaters, ties, a pair of Brogue shoes, a shirt or a pair of Converse Shoes.
The Norwegian and American shipping lane, Royal Caribbean International, explains smart casual for main meals in its fleet. Blazers, trousers (including chinos), ties or shirts are acceptable but shorts, jeans or T-shirts are not acceptable for men. Dress, casual dress, or women's underpants can be accepted by women.
The global women's magazine Cosmopolitan in South Africa interprets smart casual as the way most South African women dress in work. In addition to functioning, these outfits can also be exchanged for use at large or small parties during the day, and wear shirts with an accessory that is elegantly recommended.
The Australian newspaper The Brisbane Mail defined a smart casual gentleman in the context of workplaces and events as "look sharp without being too formal, professional but casual." Jackets, shirts, ties, and jeans are demonstrated as smart clothing . Scuffing a jacket to give a "neat look" to lower the formality is illustrated as a polished look. Details, such as striped canvas belts and white shoes with a pair of casual pants and a check shirt, are emphasized for a smart casual look. Steven and Chris from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation explains smart casual is "easy and convenient way to dress". Jeans, depending on the context and workplace environment, are not recommended. For men's clothing, a pair of khaki pants or casual pants with a collared shirt or polo and blazer illustrated. For women's clothing, the stylist notes the diversity of clothing choices and recommends: (a) keeping the pieces of clothing easy; (b) the fabrics are not very stylish; and (c) more casual accessories.
The Guardian's national newspaper seeks to clarify smart casuals from a recruitment perspective by questioning various recruitment consultants. They answer: (a) stand out but mingle with the understanding of the workplace environment; (b) attain a professional-business appearance by clarifying clothing first as it is "easier to overdressed than underdressed"; (c) wear a smart suit when avoiding a suit to give the impression "good entrance because it has a formal atmosphere: for example, a well-cut ditch, worn with a clean shirt and slacks"; (D) use accessories to "show creativity and attention to detail", but keep them to a minimum; (e) smart, plain and straight jeans are acceptable; and (f) shoes should be clean and not cluttered.
The global male fashion magazine GQ in the United Kingdom tries to define smart casual for job interviews. Wearing chino, blazer and white shirt to give the impression is suggested. Bringing a tie is recommended; the authors commented, "it's a lot more embarrassing to dress under than above".
Fashion magazine Pakistan Fashion Central defines the look of the smart casual woman from a work perspective. Understanding workplace environments and cultures is emphasized, and checking for corporate clothing codes is strongly recommended. Fashion Central outlines smart casual with smudgy and wrinkle-free clothes with non-violent and non-vibrant colors that reflect the age of women. Overly fancy or too casual dresses are discouraged and the use of extreme makeup, such as using dark, shiny or chalky colors, or applying too much eye shadow. Fashion Center reports high heels black or brown are preferred by women and advise to choose the right shoes appropriately for the workplace environment.
