Budget

In 2012, DOT provided $ 742.5 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for 11 transit projects. The recipients include light rail projects. Other projects include the extension of commuter trains and subway projects in New York City, and the bus rapid transit system in Springfield, Oregon. The fund subsidizes a major railroad project in northern Virginia, completing the Metro Silver Line from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to connect Washington, D.C., and Washington Dulles International Airport. (DOT previously agreed to subsidize the construction of the Silver Line to Reston, Virginia.)

President Barack Obama's budget request for fiscal year 2010 also included $ 1.83 billion in funding for major transit projects, where more than $ 600 million went towards 10 new transit projects or expansion. The budget provides additional funding for all projects currently receiving the Recovery Act fund, except for the bus rapid transit project. It also continues funding for 18 other transport projects currently under construction or soon.

Thereafter, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 delegates $ 600 million for Infrastructure Investment, referred to as Discretionary Grants.

The Ministry of Transportation is authorized to budget for FY 2016 for $ 75.1 billion. The budget authorization is described as follows:
