Zumba is a fitness training program created by Dutch dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s. Zumba is a trademark owned by Zumba Fitness, LLC . Brazilian pop singer Claudia Leitte has become an international ambassador for Zumba Fitness.
Zumba involves dance and aerobic movements performed for energetic music. Choreography combines hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo. Squats and lunges are also included. Zumba Fitness, owner of the Zumba program, does not charge a license fee to a gym or fitness center. About 15 million people take weekly Zumba classes at over 200,000 locations in 180 countries.

Origin
Zumba was founded in the mid-1990s by Perez in Cali, Colombia. In 2001 Perez partnered with Alberto Perlman and Alberto Aghion, and the trio released a series of fitness videos sold through infomercials. Insight Venture Partners and Raine Group are investing in 2012. The company is expanded to classroom instruction and by 2015, according to Perlman, there are 14 million Zumba students in 186 countries.
The name "Zumba" has no special meaning; it is made as a brand name. His real name is Rumbacize, a combination of Rumba (for parties in Spain, and musical styles and dance names), and Jazzercize.

Class
The Zumba class is usually about an hour long and is taught by instructors who are licensed by Zumba Fitness, LLC. In one class of Zumba, one can burn up to 600 calories, depending on the energy proposed. The music comes from the following dance styles: cumbia, salsa, merengue, mambo, flamenco, chachacha, reggaeton, soca, samba, hip hop music, axa and tango music.
There are nine types of classes, for different age and deployment levels.
- Zumba Gold is a program designed for beginners and older people.
- Zumba Step is a lower body workout that combines Zumba's routine and step aerobics with a Latin dance rhythm.
- Zumba Toning is for people doing the exercises with toning sticks. It targets the abs, thighs, arms, and other muscles throughout the body. This type of Zumba class gives participants cardio training and strength training.
- Aqua Zumba classes are held in the pool. The instructor leads the class pool while the participants follow in shallow waters. The moves have been specifically tailored to incorporate the same dance moves used in the Zumba Fitness class with the movements used in the aqua fitness class.
- Zumba at Circuit combines dance with circuit training. These classes usually last for 30 minutes and feature strength training at various stations in time intervals.
- Zumba Kids and Zumba Kids Jr. Classes designed for children between the ages of 7 and 11 years.
- Zumba Gold-Toning is a toning class for older participants with the aim of improving muscle strength, posture, mobility, and coordination.
- Zumba Sentao is a chair exercise that focuses on the use of weight to strengthen and tune the body.
- Strong by Zumba was launched in 2016. This feature combines high intensity interval training with Synced Music Motivation.
Zumba instructors have the option of becoming a ZIN (TM) Member (a Zumba Instructor Network member) to receive a bi-monthly training DVD to help create music and choreography for their personal Zumba class.
Because Zumba offers different options, Zumba program advocates claim that the program is safe for all ages, meaning that anyone from age 0 to 100 can participate in this aerobic exercise. At least some classes are specifically aimed at parents, to help them build strength, improve movement and posture, and socialize.
